LAST TWO MEET & GREETS

JUNE 2010 . . . .

SA - Port Adelaide Naval Association Clubrooms

The cold weather has arrived in Adelaide and a lot of our regular attendees were off chasing the sun around Australia and overseas. For the first time we had more apologies (30) than attendees (24).

Apologies were received from….Ron Beaumont, Frank Belcher, Michael Berry, Wally Birch, Gary Blake, John Bushell, Michael Cain, Jock Colligan, Maurie Davey, Ian Eglinton, Mike Fisher, Trevor Hill, Bill Hollas, Jeff Howlett, Rock Hudson, Ray Kemp, Gary Lang, Mal Magor, Trev McKerlie, Terry Norman, Mal Parrington, Ian Peterson, John Phillips, Blue Reidy, Bob Reidy, Chris Rowe, Ed Skubala, Paul Smithers, Jack Van Eyck, Mike Witcher.

Michael Berry, John Bushell and John Phillips are in sick-bay. Get well soon guys and see you next time.

12 of those who apologised were travelling interstate or overseas and 7 will be at Ballina next week.

Those in attendance and in the photo below were…John Bolton, Gene Boron, Roy Collins, Kim Daw, Les Figg, Gary Gosden, Bob King, Richard Kirkman, Bob Kearvell, Mark Loram, Chris McConville, Bob McLean, Blue Newton, Michael Parker, Dave Potterat, Les Radford, Geoff Salkeld, Spotty Spotswood, Bob Stanton, Gordon Stringer, Bill Swan, Alan Tassel, Neil Walton, Graham Watson.

Two new faces were Richard “Kipper” Kirkman and Bob Stanton. Both were Birdie Greenies, but the SA group is into equal opportunity so they were made most welcome and will be back next time.

VIC - Stella Maris Seafarers Centre

This gathering proved to be the best attended to date for Victoria with 28 in attendance as well as three wives and one Daughter with a special welcome to Henri & Pauline HIGGINS who had flown from Tasmania.
Many compliments have since been passed for what was a great afternoon.
There were 63 apologies (too many to list) with a few of those on their way to Ballina for the Reunion.
There were two separate members who were excited to catch up with colleagues that they had not seen or heard from for over 40 years.
The youngest attending was Allan Roadknight, son of Jim; he is currently doing his Greenie course at Cerberus.
The suggestion that the 2012 Reunion could be a 4 day cruise was well received with one member (who shall remain nameless) asked if it would be possible to negotiate a cheaper fare if he brought his own hammock.
These days, many couples in their later years prefer to do things together; that was evident with the ladies enjoying each others company close by.

MARCH 2010 . . . .

SA - Port Adelaide Naval Association Clubrooms

It was a busy weekend in Adelaide so the Meet & Greet had some heavy duty competition. We had the Festival of Arts, the Festival Fringe and the Clipsal V8’s. However we still had 32 Greenies turn up with apologies from a further 27. The vast majority of the apologies were due to attendance at the Clipsal V8’s, and there were at least a dozen regulars among them as well, so it could have been a bumper turnout. There was one Greenie who will remain nameless (and he’s never missed a M&G before) who had to attend a Festival of Arts performance. V8’s I can understand, but the Festival of Arts? And of-course Trev McKerlie made his usual 450km round trip to enjoy a coldie with his mates

As regular readers will know, SA Greenies have been great supporters of past Meet & Greets, so it would come as no surprise that the M&G organising committee (that would be Spotty & me) had a meeting and decided to export one of our own to Sydney to shore up the attendance numbers there. Mario McConville took on this enormous task and actually volunteered to stay with McGurk! We haven’t heard from him yet and I haven’t heard his name mentioned in any despatches as yet! We hope he makes it home from this hazardous duty in one piece. I also have it on good authority that Blue Reidy was playing cricket and in the grand final no less. Some of us just don’t/won’t age!

Those in attendance included…..John Bolton, Michael Bornholdt, Gene Boron, Geoff Brown, Roy Collins, Kim Daw, Chris Egan, Les Figg, Fletch Fletcher, Gary Gosden, Norm Holden, Gomez Isumski, Ray Kemp, Bob King, Masher Manson, Trev McKerlie, Blue Newton, Terry Norman, Mal Parrington, Pedro Peterson, John Phillips, Potsy Potterat, Les Radford, Bob Reidy, John Saywell, Spotty Spotswood, Gordon Stringer, Bill Swan, Sam Trigge, Neil Walton, Graham Watson, Mike Witcher.

Apologies were received from…..John Bannister, Ron Beaumount, Dave Betts, Wally Birch, Trev Brown, John Bushell, Mick Cain, Jock Colligan, Orm Cooper, Maurie Davey, Ian Eglinton, Andrew Harrison, Jeff Howlett, Rock Hudson, Gary Lang, Mal Magor, Mario McConville, Bob McLean, Michael Parker, Blue Reidy, Chris Rowe, Geoff Salkeld, Phil Shephard, Glynn Spencer, Bob Stanton, Alan Tassel, Jack Van Eyck.

VIC - Stella Maris Seafarers Centre

As a result of more forceful promoting of the M & G, there were several new faces and a record attendance of 23 Members for Victoria (but still can’t match SA), also more were apologies received.
Two in attendance had not seen each other for forty years; this gives credence to why we have these gatherings.
Members were given another reminder of why we get together, noting the passing of Kevin Wallace earlier this year pointing out that ”next time” may be too late.
The day could not pass without a “BZ” to Bob Farr & Ray Drake for their continued efforts in the galley.
The forthcoming “Bumper Sticker” was a hit with numerous orders and payments being accepted.
An excellent day was enjoyed by all recalling days gone by and the way we see the future.

Apologies were received from: -
Tom Albrecht, David Ball, Angela Ballard, Peter Barnes, Joe Bauman, John Best, Ken Brazier, Paul Buhrmann, Dennis Campbell, Mike Carruthers, Owen Culley, Pete Derriman, Simon Dew, Allan Douglas, Steve Dunstone, Peter Elton, Bruce Fox, John Fuller, Collin Green, Tony Haines, Ron Heenan, Andy Holman, Michael Houston, Mark Joseph, Geoff Kerr, Gordon Knight, Phillip Kossatz, John Levay, James Marrs, John McNicol, Peter McQueen, Herman Munnink, Brian O’Mahoney, Pete Repschlager, Geoff Richardson, James Roles, Bernd Rottinger, David Rottinger, Fred Slavin, Alan Sleat, Eric Thompson, Frank Townsend, Martin Toy & Mick Wright.
